A Call to Serve

Spencer's parents are going to be serving as missionaries in San Diego. Part of their service includes working at the Mormon Battalion Visitors Center, located in Old Town. We're so excited for them and couldn't be happier about having them close enough for visits. July 21st is when they depart, which is also great because the baby will born before they leave. Congratulations Ron and Shirley!

Arch-nemesis

As most of you are well aware, from the incessant sniffling, Spencer has been plagued with allergies for the last ten years. Well, you'll be happy to know that he saw an allergist this week and found out that he is severely allergic to dust mites. Apparently they thrive in humid climates, which would explain why Spencer's onset started when he left home for college. The allergist has him on a couple of medications, a pill and a nose spray, and I'm going to do my best to keep these "cosmopolitan guests" out of our home. First step, buying allergen proof covers for our bed and pillows.

A Few of My Favorite Things

Here a some things I'm really loving right now. First, our new Thomas O'Brien towels from Target. They're so soft and absorbent; very reasonably priced too.

Second, I am still loving the melamine bowls from Williams-Sonoma we received as a wedding gift. Everyone should have a set of these, they're wonderful.

Third, a recent purchase from Crate&Barrel, a dual magnetic chopping board. The beechwood side is perfect for fruits and veggies; the green polypropylene side resists bacteria so it's perfect for meat. Plus, I don't think it's an eye sore in the kitchen.

Florida or Bust

Spencer left yesterday morning for a business trip to Tampa. He'll be spending the next few days hanging out with his sales team while receiving some valuable training. He returns on Thursday and I can hardly wait!

Balderdash

Last night we were invited over to our Bishop's house for dessert. We also played Balderdash. It was the first time I had ever played. I was fearful I wouldn't do so well, but apparently I'm an awesome Balderdash player because I ended up winning! I either have really good skills or it was beginners luck. Spencer would choose the latter.

Tulips

Tracy and I took the kids to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival yesterday afternoon. It was a day full of tulips, mud, and sunshine. At first we were bummed because a lot of the fields had already been harvested, but when we finally found one it ended up being all we needed. Next year we'll be sure to go before the last day of the festival.
