Salem

On Sunday we drove down to Salem to visit our friends Sylvie and Eliot. It had been a long time since we'd seen them, I think almost four years. Their little girl Leia is darling. We had a great time playing at the park near their house. I don't think Van was used to all that sunshine, he was squinting the whole time.

A Weekend in Portland

Van and I accompanied Spencer on his trip to Portland this past weekend. We had a good time discovering new portions of the city, like the Pearl District and SE Clinton Street. While Spencer was working on Friday, Van and I did some shopping. I found some great things at Finnegan's and Canoe. That night Spencer and I were able to go to Keller Auditorium and see Wicked.Saturday morning we went to Broder, a Swedish cafe. The food was delicious and the atmosphere lovely. In the afternoon we stopped by the Ace Hotel to use the photo booth and ended the day by picking up some VooDoo doughnuts.

Black Eye

The day before we left for Portland Van had a little run in with his walker. He slipped while pushing it along and bumped his eye. There was a little goose egg, but it's mostly cleared up now.

Branding

. . . process in which a mark, usually a symbol or ornamental pattern, is burned into the skin of a living person or animal.

Why am I so loyal to these specific brands? I accept no variations or substitutes; even though I'm certain there are yummier, new products out there.

Remembering

Today we remember Poppi. He passed away one year ago today. He was a good man, with a great soul; truly one of a kind. This is an old photo of him and my dad. Oh, how we've missed him.

Spring

It felt like Spring today. The sun was shining, the air was crisp and I saw daffodils and cherry blossoms.

Cheap

I went to Half Price Books today to see if they would buy some of our DVD's. Thirty DVD's in exchange for thirteen measly dollars. Well, I took that thirteen dollars and put it to good use. I picked up some great board books for Van, including the ones shown above. They were all around two dollars!

Question

Where do you keep your cell phone? Spencer and I have gotten into this habit of charging them on our nightstands and using them as alarms. I hate it. I'd like to find a place where I can store them away while being charged. Any ideas? These little storage boxes are on sale at Pottery Barn.

8 Months

Today we celebrate eight months for Van. The happy guy is really into dancing lately. Whenever he hears music, it totally gets him going. He has become more and more interested in reading, which has been fun to see. His little tooth is his favorite new toy, he's curious about everything, and has become quite the chatter box.

Snow

I'm over it.

Babystyle

Sad news, Babystyle has filed for bankruptcy and will be closing all their stores. Good news is that everything is one sale. Hurry fast; locations in Bellevue and Southern California.

A Tooth

Yesterday we noticed a little tooth emerging in Van's mouth.

Cheerios

Last week we introduced Van to Cheerios. His reaction . . . he was a bit unsure about the large, dry object sitting on his tongue. He didn't really seem to like them. So we'd try again another day and still dislike. I decided to pick up some Gerber Graduates Veggie Puffs to see if he'd like those better. Turns out, he loves them. He laughs and giggles while munching on those little stars. It's really quite cute.

Welcome...

to Van's crib.

For The Kids

Cute AJ introduced me to For The Kids a little while ago and I think they are fabulous. Van and I have been listening to them and they're just too much fun. He loves "If You're Happy and You Know It" by Anathallo; "Jellyman Kelly" by Mates of States is one of my favorites.
