Summer Reading

Lewis Carroll's famous and inspiring book has been my go to "beach" book of the summer. I probably started reading it in June and we're now stepping into September. That is either a really bad review for Mr. Carroll or says a lot about how rarely I frequent the beach. Yesterday while I was reading I really loved the unique characters introduced on Alice's train ride...

A gentlemen dressed in white paper, a goat, a beetle, a horse, and a gnat.

Beaches and Berries

Went to Sunset Beach today with Maria. After a few hours in the sun we headed to Devocean for some yummy acai bowls.

Cottage Please

After looking through the latest issue of Cottage Living, I am firm in the type of home I'd like to own when we make millions. I really love the simplicity and charm of a cottage. I thought this one was beautiful. I also really like this bungalow. So someone find Spencer a really great job in Seattle so we can get going on this dream.

Without TV

Our television went home to its owner yesterday and this is all we have left. It was a rough day. We had a good four months with some really awesome programs. I will surely miss watching...

Everybody Loves Raymond
The Colbert Report
Cash Cab
What Not to Wear
The King of Queens
Iron Chef America

Thief

On Saturday we went down to Waikiki beach with Maria. Spencer and I went for a stroll along the boardwalk to check out the vendors who were prepping for Sunset on the Beach. When we were a few feet from a bike rack I saw a man walk by with a bike seat in his hand. He then hustled across the street, which I found curious. When I saw that there was a bike missing a seat I told Spencer. We sat there wondering why he would do that. The man started to walk briskly down the sidewalk and then reached for his keys; ready for a get away. At that point we decided to tell the policemen standing on the corner. They started to follow him and called for backup in the area he was headed. They brought the man back and turns out it was his bike seat. He takes his bike seat with him because he has had one stolen before. I felt so foolish.

Makapu'u Lighthouse

Maria and I hiked to this lighthouse today. It was a bit warm, but well worth the hike. Isn't it cute?

Thank You Matt Damon

While we were doing our laundry this week, I picked up an Entertainment Weekly to read. (Someone nice leaves them there for fellow washers to browse through). In an interview with EW, Matt Damon, said this about Christian Bale:

"You know who's great is Christian Bale. Did you see Harsh Times? He did that and The Prestige in the same year! People say, 'Oh, you did The Departed and The Good Shepherd in the same year, you really got robbed.' Christian f---ing Bale got robbed!"

So to this, I say thank you Matt Damon. Thank you for giving credit where credit's due. Oh, and I loved The Bourne Ultimatum.

House Guest

Spencer's sister Maria will be visiting until August 31st. I'm very excited to have her here with us. Could you imagine if I was home all day for three weeks just waiting for our move? At least now I won't be so tempted to start packing.

In Case of Emergency

For the last three and a half months I have been an intern at LDS Family Services. Our office is located on the fourth floor, which requires me to take an elevator. Day after day I ride the elevator up and down, and I have come to realize how tempted I am by the emergency buttons. What would happen if I pushed one? Would someone answer my call? Would the elevator really stop? These are all questions that will go unanswered because today is my last day.

Fine Little Day

After finding out about Fine Little Day from Oh Happy Day, I've been loving it so much. I spent the weekend looking through her beautiful posts and creative ideas. This is a picture of the great patchwork quilt she made for her little boy. Her photography is also very inspiring.

Admission Day

Today is Admission Day in Hawaii. It celebrates Hawaii's admission to the Union on August 21, 1959. Since it is a legal holiday, schools are closed and we don't have to go to work. I like to call it a day for sleeping in, making french toast, and going to the beach.

Dominican Republic

My brother Nick just received his mission call to the Dominican Republic. He leaves on November 14. This is a picture of the capital city, Santo Domingo. How exciting!

I Heart Stephen Colbert

Spencer and I recently started watching The Colbert Report and I can't get enough of it. If only I had a TiVo so I never missed an episode.

Hurricane Flossie

Hurricane Flossie has been heading closer and closer to the Big Island. It is predicted to pass by just south of the islands today and tomorrow. The winds are strong and the surf is big.

Here we go...

This is my first attempt at blogging. I'm still trying to figure out how it works.
